Uttam Mahanta, a social worker, former employee of Naduar revenue circle and a resident of Sri Sri Salmora Satra located at Chatial Chuk, Sootea breathed his last at a private hospital in Tezpur on Saturday due to prolonged illness. He was 84. He was brought up in a Satriya environment who was closely associated with many socio-cultural organizations of the greater Sootea area. He was a devoted preacher of Xatriya culture. Representatives of various organizations and individuals which included Madhuri Ahotor Talar Mukoli Bihu, Surujmukhi Natya Mancha, Pratibha Puthibharal, Chatial Chuk VDC, representatives of various xatras of Sootea paid homage to the mortal remains before the last rite. He leaves behind his son, a daughter besides a host of relatives.
