Ahead of Assam Polls, Fmr PM Manmohan Singh urges voters to elect 'Mahajot' Govt

Former Prime Minister and Rajya Sabha Member from Assam for 28 years, Dr Manmohan Singh released a video message on Friday addressing the people of Assam urging them to vote for the Congress party-led Mahajot in the upcoming Assembly Elections.

"Today, I am speaking as one of you. Once again, the time has come, for you to cast your ballot in the Vidhan Sabha Election, you must vote wisely. The people of Assam, have endured terrible sufferings through a long period of insurgency and unrest", Singh said.

He thanked the people of Assam for helping him serve as the Finance Minister for 5 and as Prime Minister of India for 10 years. He also expressed his gratitude to former Chief Ministers of Assam Late Hiteswar Saikia and Late Tarun Gogoi.

Manmohan Singh, in his message, said, "Brothers and sisters, for many years, Assam has been my second home. It was my privilege to represent Assam in the Rajya Sabha, for 28 years from 1991 to 2019. I am deeply grateful for the trust and affection of the people of Assam and for the friendship of Late Hiteswar Saikia and Late Tarun Gogoi. The people of Assam enabled me to serve our country as Finance Minister of India for 5 years and as Prime Minister of India for 10 years."

He said that if voted to power, Congress will not implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and will try its utmost to get it repealed.

The Congress is committed to protecting the unique language, culture, and history of Assam, Singh asserted.
