A big herd of elephants destroyed large tracts of paddy fields in Khalgaon of Dhekiajan under Digboi Forest Division on Thursday night.
Later, another unfortunate incident came to light where an elephant calf fell into a ditch, however, they didn't leave their younger member behind and rescued him by their own.
Local people slammed the Forest Department for their lackadaisical attitude and for being unpunctual.
