GUWAHATI: Assam shuttler Ashmita Chaliha will represent India in the forthcoming Asian Games scheduled to be held in Hangzhou in China in September. Ashmita booked her berth in the Indian squad displaying a superb performance in the selection trials for the Asian Games 2023 that concluded at Hyderabad today. In women’s singles, Ashmita Chaliha on Sunday recovered from a game down to beat Malvika Bansod three-setter 7-21, 21-15, 21-9. It was her third consecutive victories in the competition which also helped her to bag the top spot in the selection trial. Earlier Ashmita defeated Unnati Hooda 21-17, 21-19 and Anupama Upadhyaya 21-12 and 21-16.
Based on the aggregate results Ashmita, Malvika and Anupama completed India’s four-member women’s singles squad, which will be led by P V Sindhu.
Meanwhile former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth, HS Pranoy 2021 world championships bronze medallist Lakshya Sen and national champion Mithun Manjunath will complete the men’s singles lineup in the team championship.
