South African Cricketer AB de Villiers Announces Retirement From All Formats

AB De Villiers who is widely considered as one of the best batters of his generation today announces his retirement through twitter.

The 37-year-old AB De Villiers, a South African legend, announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Friday, bringing an end to an amazing cricketing career announces his retirement on Twitter, after a 17-year career.

He would no longer be the strong backbone for RCB, It was also about his game-changing impact: the visceral dread he instilled in bowlers, the awe he engendered in other batters, and the spectrum of emotions he made cricket fans experience across formats. To put it mildly, no other batsman in this century has astounded the public as de Villiers has.

"I have had a long and fruitful time playing for RCB. Eleven years have just whizzed by and leaving the boys is extremely bittersweet. Of course, arriving at this decision took a lot of time, but after a lot of contemplation, I've decided to hang up my boots and spend quality time with my family," de Villiers was quoted as saying by RCB in a release.

Recently sharing a video he said I am going to be making a big announcement, a very emotional announcement, that I have finished with all formats and all cricket all around. I do have a smile on my face because I think I am making the right decision but obviously, I am incredibly sad and have lots of emotions and thoughts going through my mind. All the years of playing cricket, there's a lot of mixed emotions," he said.

"It has been an incredible journey, but I have decided to retire from all crickets. Ever since the back yard matches with my older brothers, I have played the game with pure enjoyment and unbridled enthusiasm. Now, at the age of 37, that flame no longer burns so brightly," Last, I am aware that nothing would have been possible without the sacrifices made by my family - my parents, my brothers, my wife Danielle and my children. I look forward to the next chapter of our lives when I can truly put them first. I would like to thank every teammate, every opponent, every coach, every physic and every staff member who has travelled the same path, and I am humbled by the support I have received in South Africa, in India, wherever I have played," said the de Villiers.

"That's the reality I must accept - and, even if it may seem sudden, that is why I am making this announcement today. I've had my time. Cricket has been exceptionally kind to me. Cricket has been exceptionally kind to me. Whether playing for the Titans, or the Protease, or RCB, or around the world, the game has given me unimagined experiences and opportunities, and I will always be grateful."
