GUWAHATI: NorthEast United FC’s midfielder Fredy Chawngthansanga has renewed his contract with the club, committing his future to the Highlanders until 2027. Fredy, 21, made his Indian Super League (ISL) debut for NorthEast United FC in November against East Bengal FC. While training regularly with the first team, he also captained the club’s reserve side to a table-topping finish in the Reliance Foundation Development League (RFDL) Zonal rounds, playing a key role in their successful campaign. Fredy’s impact extended beyond RFDL as he was a vital cog in the reserve team’s triumph in the prestigious Sikkim Governor’s Gold Cup and a runner-up finish in the 70th Bharat Ratna Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Trophy, where he was named the Most Promising Player of the Tournament.
“I am ecstatic to renew my contract with NorthEast United FC. This club has helped me grow as a player and a person under the guidance of Coach Juan Pedro Benali and the coaching staff,” Fredy said before adding, “Making my ISL debut and captaining the reserve team have been major milestones in my journey with NorthEast United FC so far. I’m grateful for the trust shown in me and look forward to continuing my development here.”
Head Coach Juan Pedro Benali praised the youngster’s attitude and work ethic. “Fredy is a fantastic young player — humble, dedicated, intelligent and always eager to improve. He is one of the best young players in the country, and he has the potential to become a remarkable midfielder and a key asset for our club in the years to come,” Benali expressed.
