Guwahati Sports Association constitutes a new committee in AGM

The meeting, chaired by outgoing president Pulak Goswami, lasted nearly three hours where new office bearers of the association were also elected unopposed.

GUWAHATI: The 65th Annual General Meeting of the Guwahati Sports Association (GSA) was held at the AOA Conference hall in the city on Saturday.

The meeting, chaired by outgoing president Pulak Goswami, lasted nearly three hours where new office bearers of the association were also elected unopposed.

Addressing the media after the meeting newly elected president Paresh Chandra Das said that new office bearers are keen to develop the various sports which are the part of the Guwahati Sports Association.

“Revival of the Bordoloi Trophy is also in our plan and will soon organize a meeting where former players and sports organizers will be invited and will collect their suggestions in this regard,” said the new president.

Meanwhile, a team of Guwahati Sports Association will soon meet Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and will confer the life membership of Guwahati Sports Association to him.

It may be mentioned here that Guwahati Sports Association earlier decided to give life membership to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma along with three sports organizers-Khanin Dutta, Amiyo Kalita and Kajal Paul Choudhury this year.

Newly elected secretary Devajit Saikia said that members of the Guwahati Sports Association had set a great example by electing new office bearers unopposed. “It means all the members of the association want to work together. It’s a very good sign and I assure all that in the next two years we will work together for the betterment of sports,” said Saikia.

He also added that a committee was formed to make amendments in the constitution of Guwahati Sports Association so that all the sports disciplines, that are the part of the association, get equal status.

Meanwhile the last season’s champion and runners up team in both Super Division Football League and ‘A’ Division Football League received their trophy and cash award in the meeting. Super Division champion ASEBSC received a cash award of Rs 30,000 and runners up collected a purse of Rs 20,000. ‘A’ Division champion and runners up Dynamo and Kamrupa FC were awarded Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.
