Asian Champions Trophy India to take on Japan in semis

India beat Pakistan 4-0 on Wednesday to seal its top spot, while Japan finished 4th by defeating China 2-1.

CHENNAI: At the end of the pool stage of the Asian Champions Trophy, it was confirmed that India will take on Japan in the semifinals here at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium on Friday.

India beat Pakistan 4-0 on Wednesday to seal its top spot, while Japan finished 4th by defeating China 2-1.

South Korea clung on to its semifinal berth despite a 1-0 loss to Malaysia.

Second-placed Malaysia will face South Korea in the first semifinal. Pakistan, who finished fifth, didn’t qualify for the last four.

In the high-voltage match, India took the lead in 15th minute through Harmanpreet Singh. He doubled the lead in 23rd minute. Jugraj Singh and Akashdeep Singh scored other goals for India in 36th and 55th minutes to ensure the victory. Agencies
