Hockey World Cup to tour city on Dec 8

GUWAHATI: Hockey India on Friday announced a Trophy Tour, during which the prestigious World Cup trophy will be taken across various parts of the country.

The tour will officially kick off from December 5 with Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik handing over the trophy to Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey in Bhubaneswar. The prestigious trophy will travel across 12 states including Assam and Manipur along with one Union territory, before returning to Bhubaneswar. The Secretary of the Hockey Assam Tapan Das informed The Sentinel that the World Cup Trophy will arrive in the city from Manipur on December 8 and a brief function will be held at the Ganesh Madir Stadium complex, Khanapara in the evening to celebrate the moment. Later the trophy will leave for Jamshedpur.
