GUWAHATI: Exciting news for football fans in Guwahati! The city is set to host one of the most anticipated matches of the Indian Super League (ISL) — the Kolkata Derby between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan. Originally scheduled to take place at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on January 11, the match has been relocated to the Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium in Guwahati. It will be held on the same date and will kick off at 7-30 PM.

The change in venue comes as Kolkata Police cited their inability to provide adequate security for the derby due to their engagement with the Gangasagar Mela which will begin from January 10.

The match will be a home game for Mohun Bagan, who are in excellent form this season, having won eight of their last ten matches. The Mariners have never lost to East Bengal in the ISL and will aim to maintain their dominance.

On the other hand, East Bengal, under the leadership of new head coach Oscar Bruzon, are witnessing a resurgence. The Red and Gold Brigade have secured four league wins under his guidance and will be eager to challenge their rivals.

Both the teams are expected to arrive in the city on January 10.
