NEW DELHI: India's fast bowling sensation Jasprit Bumrah continues to touch new heights, surpassing Indian legend Ravichandran Ashwin’s all-time ICC ranking points record.

Ashwin had held the record since December 2016 with 904 points, the highest ever for an Indian bowler. In the latest rankings, Bumrah achieved 907 points, setting a new record for India. This score is also tied for the 17th highest in history, alongside England’s Derek Underwood.

Currently the world’s top-ranked Test bowler, Bumrah delivered an exceptional performance in Melbourne despite India’s heavy defeat to Australia. He claimed nine wickets in the match, bringing his series total to 30 from four games. Before the Test, Bumrah had equaled Ashwin’s 904 points, but his stellar display in Melbourne pushed him past Ashwin’s mark.

Australia captain Pat Cummins, named Player of the Match for his all-round contribution in the fourth Test, gained 15 rating points for his six wickets, moving to third in the ICC Test bowling rankings. Additionally, Cummins climbed to third in the Test all-rounder rankings after scoring 90 crucial runs across two innings in Australia’s 184-run victory.

In the Test batter rankings, India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal rose to a career-best fourth place with 854 points following his 82-run first-innings knock in the Boxing Day Test. Meanwhile, Nitish Kumar Reddy’s maiden Test century propelled him 20 spots up to 53rd.

South African pacer Marco Jansen climbed to fifth in the Test bowling rankings after claiming seven wickets in a thrilling win over Pakistan in Centurion, crossing 800 points for the first time in his career. Aiden Markram also improved his ranking, moving to 15th among Test batters following scores of 89 and 37 in the match.
