Judoka Bekauri wins 1st gold for Georgia

TOKYO: Lasha Bekauri claimed the first Olympic gold medal for Georgia at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics when he triumphed in the men's judo -90kg category.

Meanwhile, Chizuru Arai grabbed the sixth gold in judo for the host nation.

In the final of men's -90kg, the 21-year-old Georgian beat Eduard Trippel of Germany by a waza-ari in regular time. Davlat Bobonov of Uzbekistan and Krisztian Toth of Hungary shared bronze medals in the category. Agencies
