All Assam Students Union (AASU) Felicitates Assam's Golden Girl Hima Das

GUWAHATI: All Assam Students Union (AASU) organized a felicitation ceremony at Latasil Playground today afternoon to felicitate the new queen of Indian Athletics Hima Das. Around 160 organizations felicitated the Dhing Express at the event.

Felicitating Hima, AASU Chief Advisor Dr Samujjal Bhattacharya said, “AASU not only protests on roads about various issues, they also produce sportspersons, and Hima is a prime example of that. We have to take care of her. Avoid felicitations...only try to support her”.

“She is also a part of AASU as the sports secretary of Dhing regional unit. She already participated in our Gana Satyagraha at Latasil,” he added.

AASU President Dipankar Kumar Nath said, “ First time in the history of AASU a sports person is being felicitated like this manner and hope more such programmes will come in future.”

AASU General Secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said, “The way Hima wants to achieve heights, we too want to see her achieving heights. Coming out from a village like Kandulimari Hima proved herself. She makes us proud. The government has to give support Hima in coaching and other necessary requirements. For that a sports policy is essential.”

Hima’s parents were also felicitated at the event. Elated Hima sang her favourite song “manuhe manuhor babe” and “mon jai” that enthralled everyone. On the other hand, Hayat hospital announced free treatment for Hima and her family when needed.

In her speech, Hima urged everyone to identify the hidden talents of the State and guide them. Associations should also concentrate on this issue seriously. She ensured that she will try to win a medal in Olympics to make Assam proud.

Earlier, Hima was felicitated by Gauhati University today at the Assam Administrative Staff College, Khanapara. Dr Suresh Kumar Nath, Register, Gauhati University and Dr Ranjan Kumar Kakati, Director, Students’ Welfare, GU handed over a cheque of Rs five lakh to Hima.
