GUWAHATI: Assam added four more medals in their tally in the 38th National Games held in different venues in Uttarakhand on Saturday. Among the four medals three are silver and the other one is bronze.
Bikram Changmai won a silver medal with a timing of 2:04:23 in 200m butterfly while Astha Choudhary had to be content with a bronze medal finish in 200m butterfly event with a timing of 2:25:30.
In weightlifting, Suditya won a silver in 89kg category with a lift of 141 kg in snatch and 178 kg in clean and jerk.
Khudra Panging ,who had already proceeded into the final on Friday, had to be content with a
silver in the below 75 kg sanda category.
Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain began her campaign with a 5-0 victory over Pooja Rani(Haryana) in her opening bout, while Abhinab Saikia also secured a win in the men’s light middleweight (71kg) category, defeating Nikhil Naik Gaonkar of Goa (5-0). Meanwhile, Assam’s lawn bowl players including commonwealth Games medallist Nayanmoni Saikia also made a strong start by winning their respective matches.
Assam so far has collected a total of 12 medals in the Games, comprising five in wushu, three in weightlifting, three in swimming, and one in women’s badminton.
