Assam register big win against Meghalaya in Vijay Hazare Cricket

GUWAHATI: Assam registered second victory in the Vijay Hazare Cricket thrashing Meghalaya by 164 runs in Kolkata on Tuesday.

Elected to bat, Assam scored 221-9 in their 50 overs. Later they bowled out Meghalaya 57 in 20.4 overs.

Assam lost both the openers- Abhisekh Thakuri (1) and Swarupam Purkayastha (3) very early part of the innings. Riyan Parag (32, 4X3) and Sibsankar Roy (38, 4X5) tried to put a little resistance and added 54 runs on the fourth- wicket partnership. Once Riyan Parag got out and the partnership was broken, Assam lost wickets on regular intervals. However, thanks to lower order batsman Mukhtar Hussain who played a crucial knock of 47 runs (unbeaten ) in 33 balls and guided the team to cross 200 mark. There were 6 boundaries and one six in his innings.

Mukhtar also delivered with the ball when Meghalaya came into bat. The pacer collected 3 wickets giving away 19 runs, He got good support from Avinov Choudhury who also picked up three wickets giving away only 9 runs. Riyan bagged 2-6. Among the Meghalaya's batters Chirag Khurana(23) and captain Dippu Sangma (13) scored double-digit runs in the match.
