Assam Rifle and Shooting Association felicitates Hriday for his world Cup medal

All the top officials of the Assam Rifle and Shooting Association including President Diganta Borah and Secretary Bhaba Kalita along with Hriday’s parents Sarat Hazarika and Eva Saikia attended the function.

GUWAHATI: Assam Rifle and Shooting Association (ARSA) felicitated shooter Hriday Hazarika in a function held at the Kahilipara Shooting Range here today. Hriday recently won a silver medal in 10m air rifle representing the country in the ISSF World Cup Shooting held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

All the top officials of the Assam Rifle and Shooting Association including President Diganta Borah and Secretary Bhaba Kalita along with Hriday’s parents Sarat Hazarika and Eva Saikia attended the function.

Talking to the media about his recent achievement Hriday said, “Initially I was a little bit nervous as I went to Baku with new equipment. However as the tournament progressed my confidence level had gone high and I was successful to make a podium finish there.” It may be mentioned here that it was the first individual senior World Cup medal for Assam shooter.

Hriday, who hails from Lakhimpur, now spent most of his time in Delhi for his training. The shooter today also added: “After a few days rest I shall start my training in Delhi. Next World Shooting Championship is scheduled to be held also at Baku within a short period of time and the competition is very crucial for me as the shooters will get the chance to book their slots for the next Olympic.”

Meanwhile the secretary of the ARSA Bhaba Kalita today said that there is enough talent in shooting in the State but many of the talented shooters weren’t able to continue the sport as it is a very expensive game. He also appealed to the State government to provide shooting equipment to the association so that budding shooters could use it during traing.
