Assam sprinter Hima Das Included In Relay Team

GUWAHATI: Assam sprinter Hima Das will be the part of Indian squad which will participate in the forthcoming 23rd Asian Athletics Championships to be held in Doha (Qatar) from April 21-24.

In the recently concluded Federation Cup Athletics, Hima won the gold medal in women 400mts but failed to qualify for the Asian Athletics Championships in this event. However, Athletic Federation of India selected her in the 6-member 4X400mts women relay team. The other members in the squad are Poovamma, Saritaben Gaekwad, Jisna Mathew, Vismaya and Sonia Baishya.

The selection committee today selected 25 men and 26 women athletes for the biennial continental athletics event. President of the Athletic Federation of India Adille J Sumariwalla said, “The selection committee discussed results from the recently held four-leg Indian Grand Prix series and 23rd Federation Cup which concluded on Monday in Patiala. The team selected is in three groups. The first group comprises of campers while the second group comprises of non-campers who will have to undergo confirmatory trials on April 13 before the team departs for Doha. The third group is of sprinters, both men and women, who will compete in 4x100m relay. The participation of 4x100m relay team is also subject to confirmatory trials.”
