GUWAHATI: Assam made a strong start in the Table Tennis event at the 38th National Games, securing a dominant 3-0 victory over Uttar Pradesh in Dehradun on Sunday.
Shankab Gautam gave Assam an early lead, winning the first match 11-7, 7-11, 11-2, 11-3. Agniv Bhaskar Gohain extended the advantage by clinching the second match 11-3, 11-9, 13-11, making it 2-0 in Assam’s favor. Priyanuj Bhattacharyya sealed the win with a hard-fought victory in the third match, overcoming his opponent 11-9, 8-11, 9-11, 12-10, 11-8.
With this victory, Assam now looks ahead to their next two matches against Tamil Nadu and Telangana.
Meanwhile, in athletics, Assam narrowly missed out on a medal as Ambika Narzary finished fourth in the long jump event.'
