GUWAHATI: The first batch of Assam contingent comprising the badminton players will leave for Goa on Tuesday to participate in the forthcoming National Games. The 37th edition of the Games will begin on October 26.
This time Assam will compete in 27 disciplines and the total number of players and officials will be 365. After the 33rd National Games, hosted by Assam, it will be the first occasion when Assam will put such a big contingent.
In the badminton event Assam will send 20 players along with coaches and manager. Although 37th National Games will kick off on October 26, the badminton event will start from October 19, one week before the kick off of the Games.
Meanwhile the jersey of Assam team for the forthcoming National Games will be released at the Sarusajai Sports Complex on Monday evening in presence of Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Nandita Gorlosa and several top athletes of the State.
It may be mentioned here that Goa Games will be the biggest one in the history of National Games as altogether 43 disciplines, highest in a single edition, was included this time.
