GUWAHATI: Bailey Trail Trek and Mt. Gorichen Expedition in Arunachal Pradesh was formally launched in a simple function at R G Baruah Sports Complex in the city. Initiated by Padmashree Anshu Jamsenpa, these two national adventure events are scheduled to be organised during Sept–Oct 2021. High altitude trekkers and seasoned mountaineers from different parts of the country will join Anshu in this expedition.
Anshu informed the media that around 80 local youths would be engaged and trained during the course of these two events. After the training they can work as trainers, trekking guides, camp leaders, porters and cooks. She further stated that adventure tourism has huge scope and youths should opt for these opportunities rather than running after Government jobs which are scarce.
On the occasion, a dedicated website www.baileytrail.com was launched by Brigadier S Prasad, Advisor of the event. He stated that the Bailey Trail is a historic route taken by Lt. Col. F.M. Bailey who was a British Political Officer. During his explorations of the area, he trekked from Bomdila to Tawang via Chander, Thungri, Changla, Potok, Lurtem, Mago and Jang with altitude touching 15500 ft above sea level. Same trek route was used by both Indian and Chinese army during the 1962 Indo China war. As for the Mt. Gorichen Expedition he was sure that Indian Army would also go all out in facilitating the mountain expeditions in Arunachal Himalayas including rescue operations as and when required.
Tsering Wange, President Arunachal Mountaineering and Adventure Sports Association stated that Dr Anshu Jamsenpa, who holds a Guinness World Record in mountaineering, will lead Mt Gorichen Expedition and Everester Nima Lama will be the leader of Bailey Trail Treks. He further assured that health regulations and SOPs will be strictly followed for the safety of both organisers and participants. He also announced that part of the proceeds from the event will be donated to Covid-19 Relief Fund.
