GUWAHATI: Tennis players who trained and honed their skills during the early 1980s through the 1990s at the Nehru Stadium Tennis Courts under the guidance of renowned NIS coach Kawaljeet Singh gathered for a grand reunion on Wednesday at India Club in the city.
The day-long event was filled with various activities, culminating in a heartfelt tribute to coach Kawaljeet Singh, who began his illustrious coaching career in Guwahati. The coach was honoured with a commemorative plaque and gifts by his former students.
The reunion brought together 78 former players, many of whom still pursue the sport recreationally across the country.
“This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime reunion and perhaps the first of its kind involving a sporting institution,” said a former national champion who received training at the Nehru Stadium courts during the 1980s. “I’m thrilled, I could travel all the way from Bengaluru, where I now live, to be part of this special occasion,” she added.
