Guwahati: Chief Minister Cup FIDE Chess Tourney begins on Monday

CM Cup–2nd Guwahati Smart City Intl FIDE Chess Tournament begins Monday at Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex with a 10-round Swiss League format.

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Cup-2nd Guwahati Smart City International FIDE Rating Chess Tournament is set to kick off in the city from Monday. The five- day meet will be held at the Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex and will follow a 10-round Swiss League format.

Announcing the event, the president of All Assam Chess Association Mukuta Deka said that nearly 300 players from 20 States  and two from Nepal will take part in the competition.

Deka also mentioned that the tournament carries a total prize money of Rs 5,10,000. The champion will earn Rs 70,000 while first and second runners-up will collect a purse of Rs 50,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively.

The media briefing was also attended by Rajib Dhar, the general secretary of the All Assam Chess Association.  He shared that nearly 180 players from Assam will take part in the game. The home contingent included International Master Mayank Chakraborty. Also among the top names is International master from Bengal Koustuv Kundu.
