GUWAHATI: Machkhowa Cricket Coaching Centre (MCCC) edged past Guwahati Cricket Coaching Centre (GCCC) by 2 wickets in the opening game of the TOPCEM-ASJA U-16 Inter-School and Coaching Centre Cricket Tournament, held at Nehru Stadium here today.
Chasing a target of 141 runs, MCCC achieved victory in 32.3 overs, losing eight wickets. Manash Das (35) and Nihal Baishya (30) were the key contributors with the bat, while Rohit Choudhury from GCCC impressed with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 29 runs.
Earlier, GCCC posted a total of 140 in 37.5 overs, thanks to responsible innings from Rohit Choudhury (33) and Hitakrit Kashyap (32). Nihal Ahmed of MCCC bowled nice spell in the match claiming 3 wickets for 20 runs. He was later adjudged Man of the Match award.
With this win MCCC stormed into the semi finals where they will face the winner of the match between Gurdon CCC and South Point School.
The tournament was inaugurated by former first-class cricketer and Assam Cricket Association selector Satyagopal Chakraborty, alongside veteran cricket coach Nabab Ali. Both were introduced to the players during the ceremony. Bidyut Kalita and Sushim Ghosh, president and working president of the Assam Sports Journalists’ Association, were also present on the occasion.
