GUWAHATI: He already made himself as one of the key players in NorthEast United FC’s first XI. Parthib Sundar Gogoi, who scored a hat-trick in the team’s first game in the 132nd edition of the Durand Cup, feels the oldest competition of the country is a great platform for youngsters. The player has also shared that he has aimed to improve his performance every day and become a part of the senior national team soon. Here are the excerpts.

Q. The Durand Cup is a huge platform for youngsters. Your views?

Parthib: I agree. As you can see other teams are fielding their youngsters and some experienced players are play-ing in the tournament as well. It is a very good competition to play in and it has a significant history. I feel it pro-vides a good opportunity to the young players to perform and open the door for them in the big league.

Q.You scored a hat-trick in this edition of Durand Cup. Good beginning for the season…

Parthib: This was my first appearance in the Durand Cup. All credit goes to the coach and my teammates, who made it easy for me to score. I was only at the right place at the right time.

Q.What about your plans for the season?

Parthib: My plans are very simple. I want to learn from each game, keep improving, and push the ceiling every time. The target I would say is to try and score in every game.

Q. Do you feel you are in better shape this season?

Parthib: I am a young player and I have got a lot to learn. The coach will guide me and assess me with all his experience. I will try to give my hundred percent and listen to the coaching staff. I have aimed to improve my per-formance every day and to be a part of the senior national team soon.

Q.How has Indian football developed over the past year?

Parthib: Indian Football has certainly grown and the performance of the national team and the leagues have improved. I feel it will develop further in the coming days.
