NAGAON: In a nail-biting quarterfinal match of the 76th Independence Day Cup Prize Money Football Tournament, Oil India Football Club beat Eleven Star Club of Bongaigaon 4-3 in tiebreaker at the Nurul Amin Stadium on Wednesday.
The match, which ended 1-1 in regular time, saw both teams display aggressive football from the outset, captivating the audience with their skills and determination. Eleven Star Club, fresh from their pre-quarterfinal win against the strong Police team, took the lead in the first half through a penalty kick converted by Paojinmowan.
Oil India FC, however, equalized in the 70th minute with a stunning goal, setting the stage for a thrilling tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker, Oil India’s Milan Basumatary, Tupu Brahma, and Mondila Rongmei scored, while Eleven Star’s Nagesh and Betharam found the net. Oil India’s superior finishing skills ultimately sealed their 4-3 win.
Before the match, Nagaon District Sports Officer Pritam Baruah, who was introduced to the teams, players, and referees by Tapan Kumar Das, general secretary of Nagaon Sports Association and joint secretary Ujjwal Baruah.
