GUWAHATI: NorthEast United FC (NEUFC) and Mohammedan SC played out a goalless draw at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati during their Indian Super League (ISL) match on Friday. The single point from this match helped NEUFC climb to third place on the points table with 22 points from 14 matches.
Mohammedan Sporting, currently at the bottom of the points table, started the match positively. They earned the first clear opportunity in the 18th minute through Adison Singh. Singh cleverly lobbed the ball to Alexis Gomez, who controlled it deftly and launched a left-footed shot. However, his effort narrowly missed the target, going wide of the left post.
As the game progressed, NEUFC began to find their rhythm and create opportunities. In the 57th minute, they won a free-kick from distance. Alaaeddine Ajaraie caught the Mohammedan SC defense off-guard with a clever pass to an unmarked Parthib Gogoi on the left side of the penalty box. Gogoi had time to control the ball and turn, but the Mohammedan SC defense recovered quickly to block his shot, resulting in a corner.
Three minutes later, Mohammedan SC responded with a dangerous free-kick. Alexis Gomez opted for a direct attempt, bypassing the NEUFC defensive wall and targeting the top-right corner. However, NEUFC goalkeeper Gurmeet showcased excellent reflexes, making a crucial save to keep the scoreline level.
Despite a series of late attacks from NEUFC, they were unable to find the back of the net. Both teams ultimately settled for a point each, leaving NEUFC satisfied with their move up the table while Mohammedan SC continued their struggles at the bottom collecting 7 points from 14 games.
