GUWAHATI: The delay in Olympics will not make any harm on the preparation of the Indian Hockey team and they would go to Japan with a bright chance of podium finish, feels senior official of Hockey India Tapan Das.
According to him Team India now a force to reckon with and it’s ready to face every kind of challenge even this long unscheduled break.
COVID-19 has brought the country to a standstill and all sporting activities were halted. Olympics 2020, which was supposed to be held in July, was deferred for a year.
Talking to The Sentinel Das, the treasurer of Hockey India said: “In the recent past both our men and women team were playing magnificent hockey. Our men’s team was one of the medal contenders in the Tokyo Olympics and we were also expecting good show from our women team. However due to COVID-19 pandemic the mega event deferred by a year but still I feel we have very good chance to return with medal from Tokyo.”
21-day lockdown forced the players to stay at home and denied them to go for regular practice session. However Das said that Hockey India took steps so that the fitness levels of the players keep intact.
“We have separate wing which monitor the fitness and training session of the team along with diets. The experts of this department already sent details training schedule to the players which they have to follow during their stay at home. Hope all the players will be fit when they will return into the ground after the situation turns normal,” said Das.
