NTPC-Bongaigaon supports budding football talents from rural areas

NTPC-Bongaigaon sponsors sports kits and offers financial support to four promising footballers from rural areas as part of its CSR initiatives to encourage grassroots football.

KOKRAJHAR: In a significant move to encourage grassroots football, NTPC-Bongaigaon, situated at Salakati in Kokrajhar district, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, sponsored sports kits and provided necessary financial assistance for transport and allowances to four promising footballers hailing from rural areas. These budding talents had been initially selected to represent the under-15 and under-17 categories in the Assam Trials held at Adabari Playground, Kokrajhar in the month of January. The trials were conducted by Sudeva Delhi FC, and the selected players include Sandeep Nazary, Kapil Brahma, Rangina Basumatary, and Nihan Basumatary.

Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC- Bongaigaon, addressed the gathering in the presence of Dr Heman Hazarika, Scientist, Regional Office, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India. Maitra emphasized NTPC’s commitment to promoting sports and nurturing young talents from the region, particularly from rural backgrounds. Dr Heman Hazarika also appreciated NTPC’s efforts in supporting local talents from rural areas and wished the young players the very best for the upcoming trials and emphasised on the importance of sports and academics in life.

NTPC-Bongaigaon acted promptly on the request made by the All-Bodo Students Union (ABSU) to facilitate the participation of the selected players in the final trials to be held at Sudeva Delhi FC’s training facility in Delhi. Danen Narzary, President, Salakati Anchalik Committee, ABSU, Ajay Ram Baro, General Secretary, NTPC- Bongaigaon Employees Union, Pinchu Daimary, President, NBEU, and representatives of Salakati Shramik Union expressed their gratitude to NTPC for its proactive support. Onkar Nath, addressing the event, highlighted the importance of such initiatives in transforming the sports landscape of the region.

The programme was also attended by Sheeja A Sasidharan, AGM (EMG), Paresh Mathur, AGM (TS), Roshan Dungdung, DGM (HR), and Madhurjya S Lahkar, DGM (CC). This initiative reflects NTPC Bongaigaon’s continued efforts to contribute positively to the community and promote sports as a means of holistic development for the youth.
