Tenure of office bearers increased to four years: GSA adopt new constitution

GUWAHATI: Gauhati Sports Association (GSA) adopted a new constitution during its Extraordinary General Meeting held at the Gauhati Town Club Auditorium in the city on Sunday. The new constitution of the GSA, which was drafted to make the organization vibrant and updated in the changing landscape of the sporting world, was earlier approved by the working committee and was sent to the Extraordinary General Meeting for the final approval and adoption.

The secretary of GSA Devajit Saikia explaining the necessity of the new constitution in the meeting said that the new constitution has been drafted to make the GSA a top sports organization as well as for all-round development of the sports. Under the new constitution, the executive committee will consist of 31 members instead of the earlier 17 member committee. There will be eight Vice Presidents instead of three out of which one will be reserved for woman and also have four Assistant General Secretaries instead of earlier two. The tenure of the committee will also be increased to four years instead of earlier two years. “

He also said, “There will be seven executive members in the committee and will also have a specific Football and Cricket committee to cater to the needs of the current situation such as grassroots and youth development. On the other hand there will be separate committees for other disciplines too.” The draft constitution was approved by the house unanimously and it was adopted with effect from yesterday itself. After the adoption, President Paresh Chandra Das and the earlier committee resigned as it was formed according to the earlier constitution. To start working under the new constitution, a new executive committee was formed for the next four years. Two former Presidents of the GSA Pulak Goswami and Munin Nobis also included in the new committee as the special invitee of the executive committee.
