GUWAHATI: Veteran Chess Player, organizer and social worker Dr Rajen Gogoi passed away yesterday at Dibrugarh. He was 73 years old.
Gogoi, a resident of Sonari, were instrumental to promote chess in the State. He was also the president of All Assam Chess Association from 1997 to 2005.
All Assam Chess Association, Guwahati Chess Association and Guwahati Chess Academy expressed deepest condolences to the bereaved family. Assam Chess Club (ACC) also mourned the death of Gogoi. In a condolence message the founder secretary of Assam Chess Club BiswajitBharadwaj said that Gogoi was instrumental in promoting and developing the game of chess in Assam. He will always be remembered by the chess fraternity for his immense contribution to the game.
