GUWAHATI: The 4th edition of Dr. A C Sarma Sports Promotion Award 2025 was presented to both the winners Vivek Basumatary, who represented the Assam team in the National School Volleyball Championship, and Purnima Karmakar, who represented the Assam team in the National Junior Women's Hockey Championship.
A certificate of honour and cash prize of Rs. 25,000 each was presented at a meeting held at Bijoy Chandra & Bimal Bhagawati Bhavan, Tezpur. The award is organized with the support of the Tezpur District Sports Association and sponsored by the personal trust of the family of Dr. Anand Chandra Sharma who played both first-class football and cricket.
For cricket, Sharma received the "Sports Excellence Award" from the Government of Assam for the year 2005-2006. He represented Assam in the Ranji Trophy and represented Gauhati University in inter-university football. His sporting career was remarkable - from representing the Tarun Assam Club team while still in Class IX to representing the Guwahati team and winning the inaugural Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy while studying at Cotton College, to captaining the Dibrugarh district team while serving at Assam Medical College.
