GUWAHATI: NorthEast United FC will take on Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC in their second Group F fixture of the 135th IndianOil Durand Cup at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium here on Saturday. The match will kick off at 7:00 PM.
Sitting atop Group F with three points, the Highlanders have the opportunity to strengthen their position as they continue the defence of their Durand Cup crown. The defending champions could scarcely have asked for a better start to their campaign with a commanding 6-0 victory over Bodoland FC in their tournament opener. Alaaeddine Ajaraie stole the headlines with a hat-trick, while Lalrinzuala, Redeem Tlang and Antonio Moyano each found the net to complete a dominant display. It was a performance defined by attacking football, defensive discipline and the intensity that has become synonymous with Juan Pedro Benali’s side. Beyond the three points, the convincing victory also handed the Highlanders the best goal difference in the group, giving them early control of Group F.
The next challenge, however, presents an entirely different story. For the first time in their history, NorthEast United FC will lock horns with Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC in a competitive fixture.
With momentum firmly on their side, NorthEast United FC will look to make it two wins from two, consolidate their place at the top of Group F and edge closer to qualification.
