GUWAHATI: The head coach of Rajasthan Royals, Rahul Dravid, attended a press conference at the ACA Stadium in the city today, where he answered several questions from the local media, including The Sentinel, on the team’s preparation, Riyan Parag, and other key issues. Here are the excerpts:
Q: What are your thoughts on RR’s performance in the new season of IPL?
A: IPL is a highly competitive tournament, and we need to work together as a unit. Our ultimate goal is to win the trophy, but to achieve that, we must put in a lot of hard work on the field.
Q: How do you feel about returning to RR?
A: I was previously associated with Rajasthan Royals, so it feels like coming back home. The franchise has always been committed to promoting young and talented cricketers, and it’s great to see several promising players in our squad this season as well. I will stand behind each and every cricketer, encouraging them to put up a strong performance and compete for the title.
Q: What do you think about the team’s composition and preparation?
A: We have a well-balanced team with a good mix of experienced and young cricketers. Players like Riyan Parag and Yashasvi Jaiswal may still be young, but they have gained valuable experience, having played numerous matches in the competition. The squad is shaping up well for the upcoming season and when it comes about our preparation, I believe we are on the right track.
Q: Is it a challenge to play home matches in two separate cities?
A: I don’t think so. The infrastructure at both venues is excellent, and we are already familiar with the conditions. Additionally, our fan base is strong in both cities, which will provide us with great support. So, I don’t see any disadvantage.
Q: What are your thoughts on Riyan Parag?
A: I have known Riyan since 2018 when he played in the U-19 World Cup under my coaching. He is a highly talented cricketer and a crucial part of our setup. I am confident he will entertain the fans in Guwahati and across the country with his performances. If he plays well in the tournament, it will positively impact Rajasthan Royals as well.
Q: Any special message for Riyan?
A: He is developing well and performing brilliantly. At this stage, he needs to continue working hard and enjoying the game. Ups and downs are a part of cricket, but staying focused and determined is crucial for his growth.
Q: What are your memories from your previous visit to Guwahati?
A: I have fond memories of Guwahati. The last time I visited was during the World Cup when we were supposed to play a warm-up match against England, but unfortunately, the game was washed out.
