GUWAHATI: A total of 72 Under-19 footballers scouted from across Assam during the 70th Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Football Tournament are currently undergoing a camp at the SAI playground in Guwahati. The trials, started on Monday, are being conducted under the watchful eyes of former India captain and AFC Pro Licence holder Renedy Singh, alongside a team of experienced coaches like Malang Aao and Baharul Islam.

Over the course of the coming week, 17 of these promising young talents will be selected for a special training stint at Marbella FC in Spain. The initiative marks a significant step forward for grassroots football development in Assam and offers a rare international exposure opportunity for local players.

Of the selected players, two will be awarded an extended one-month training programme, and one outstanding performer will earn the opportunity to join Marbella FC—an unprecedented prospect for an Assam footballer.

“We are committed to the uplift of the grassroots of Assam football in whatever way we can. This year, the Bordoloi Trophy has been a huge success with participation of maximum number of players from all across the state and beyond,” said Devajit Saikia, Secretary of Guwahati Sports Association.
