APSC Cash-for-job Scam

By Our Staff Reporter

Guwahati, Nov 26: There is still no fil word on when the remaining two absconding officials – one of Assam Civil Service (ACS) and the other of Assam Police Service (APS)– will be arrested for their alleged involvement in the APSC cash-for-job scam.

While 23 ACS, APS and Allied Service officials have been arrested up till now since 8th November, ACS official Nishamoni Deka and APS officer Rakesh Gupta are still at large. Deka’s anticipatory bail plea has already been rejected by the Court of Special Judge here.

Though some senior police officers had exuded confidence that all 25 ACS, APS and Allied Service officials under the scanner for allegedly bribing Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) officials to ensure their selection would be arrested, two officials maging to give the slip to police has raised eyebrows in some quarters.

Meanwhile, arrested ACS official Rajarshi Sen Deka, son of former Congress Minister Nilomoni Sen Deka, has been remanded in 14-day judicial custody by the Court of Special Judge here on Sunday at the expiry of his 14-day police remand.

With this, the total number of officials incarcerated at the Guwahati Central Jail following their arrest has risen to 22. ACS official Rumi Saikia is still under police custody and will be produced before the court once her remand period expires.
