Guwahati: In a bid to boost road infrastructure in the Northeast region, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has recommended for Detailed Project Report (DPR) approval three projects worth Rs 100.23 crore in Meghalaya and Mizoram. The projects will be implemented under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS)- Roads.
Moreover, two road projects in Assam are under consideration of DoNER and will be placed before the Empowered Inter-Ministerial Committee (EIMC) of NESIDS (Roads) in its next meeting. The estimated cost of the road projects in Assam is Rs 71.43 crore.
According to an office memorandum of DoNER dated February 3, 2025, the three projects recommended for DPR approval in the last EIMC meeting held in New Delhi are (i) construction of a major bridge, including immediate approaches over the Umngot River on the Jongksha-Kharang-Diengleng-Nongjrong-Moodymmai-Wahiajer road in Meghalaya under NESIDS (Roads), costing Rs 22.21 crore; (ii) Construction of Khankawn to Rongura Hmun Serchhip District in Mizoram under NESIDS-Roads with a cost of Rs 32.59 crore; and (iii) Construction of Thenzawl Sialsuk via Sathlur and Lau River in Mizoram under NESIDS (Roads), costing Rs 45.46 crore.
The two projects in Assam, which are under consideration of DoNER, are (i) Construction of a 15-km road from Mangaldoi to Mazikuchi costing Rs 50.28 crore and (ii) Upgradation/improvement of a 6-km road from Amoni (NH-127) to Salna, with a cost of Rs 21.15 crore. After the submission of a report on the road alignment by the North Eastern Council (NEC), the projects will be discussed for DPR approval in the next EIMC meeting, the office memorandum stated.
NESIDS Roads is a project under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS) that aims to improve infrastructure in the North Eastern Region of India. The Government of India fully funds the NESIDS scheme. DoNER monitors and supervises the implementation of the scheme by the state government concerned.
