350 Japanese encephalitis and 2,719 dengue cases reported in Assam

Malaria, Japanese encephalitis (JE), and dengue have raised their ugly heads in Assam at the same time.

GUWAHATI: Malaria, Japanese encephalitis (JE), and dengue have raised their ugly heads in Assam at the same time. The three vector-borne diseases have claimed 21 lives in the state in the current year.

The state has detected 350 JE cases, leading to the deaths of 19 this year. The State has also detected 2,719 dengue cases this year, claiming two lives. The State also detected 165 malaria cases this year without any deaths.

The state has 17 JE cases, 124 dengue cases, and two malaria cases today. The highest number of dengue cases is in Karbi Anglong East, with 114 cases. On the other hand, the state detected JE cases in 12 districts today.

According to Health Department sources, as compared to last year (January to August 2022), the state had 355 JE cases with 69 deaths. And hence, there is a significant decrease in the deaths reported due to JE as a result of the effective implementation of measures towards JE management in the state.
