GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi 'should be arrested for his involvement in the conspiracy to kill the Prime Minister.
Talking to the media at Janata Bhawan here today, the Chief Minister said, "It has come to light in a sting operation that the security breach during the PM visit was pre-planned, not spontaneous. The protestors were members of radical forces, not farmers.
"DSP Sukhdev Singh said in the sting operation that he had informed the senior SSP of the possibility of such an incident during the visit of the Prime Minister to the state. Despite that information, the Punjab Government took no security measures. The moot question is: how could the protestors know that the Prime Minister would opt for that alternative road because of bad weather conditions? None of the three – the Chief Secretary, the DGP and the Chief Minister – accompanied the Prime Minister when he was going by road.
"Some Congress leaders were also behind the conspiracy. The insensitive comments from some Congress leaders bear testimony to this fact. The threat that the lawyers get from abroad proves that an international force is also behind the conspiracy."
