KOKRAJHAR: As many as 35 undertrial NDFB members under NIA were brought to session court in Kokrajhar today. The members have cases in different police stations of Kokrajhar, and they have been lodged in Central Jail, Guwahati. The former militant members included M. Batha, an NDFB turned National Liberation Front of Boroland (NDFB). The NDFB members were produced before the District Session Judge, Kokrajhar.
A lawyer told the media persons that the NIA court had transferred the cases of the undertrial NDFB members to the state government, and accordingly, 35 members having cases were brought to Session Court in Kokrajhar. He said their cases would be tried in Kokrajhar, and the members are likely to stay in Kokrajhar jail.
Recently, replying to queries of media persons, the Chief of BTR, Pramod Boro, said the government BTR in connivance with the state government had taken necessary initiatives to release jailed members, and as per their request, the NIA court had decided to transfer the cases of the jailed NDFB members to the state government to dispose of their cases. He hoped that the jailed NDFB members would be released as per legal parameters.
Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma also said during the unveiling ceremony of Bodofa UN Brahma's statue in New Delhi on May 1, 2025, that the state government was ready to initiate the legal process of jailed NDFB members to release them once the NIA court transferred the cases to the state government. Now, the family members of the jailed NDFB have got some relief after their cases were transferred to the state government and hope that by honouring the BTR accord, all the jailed members will be released to lead a normal life, as they are not looking for separation from India but self-rule under the Constitution of India.
