Guwahati: Even though the war-like events and tension between India and Pakistan have eased following the announcement of a ceasefire, pro-Pakistan elements are being serially arrested in Assam.

The Assam Police has continued to crack down on anti-national elements in the state, and 58 Pakistan sympathizers are now cooling their heels behind bars. The crackdown is in line with the government’s policy of zero tolerance for traitors and those who post anti-national messages on social media platforms.

Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media to say, “Sukur Ali and Fazal Ali were arrested by Sonitpur police for anti-national activities yesterday (Tuesday). 58 people have been sent to jail so far in the Assam police campaign against Pakistan supporters. We have not given safeguards to anti-national persons in Assam till today, and our campaign will continue. No one will be exempt in this regard. 58 Pak sympathisers are now BEHIND BARS. Nobody will be spared.”

It is noteworthy that Aminul Islam, the MLA of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) from the Dhing assembly constituency, was arrested on April 24 for allegedly making comments in support of Pakistan at a public meeting in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack.
