GUWAHATI: Travelling to Tezpur and the North Bank? If so, get ready to pay more toll fees on the national highway, as a new toll gate is set to be operational at Sulung in the Nagaon district shortly. Sulung lies in the national highway stretch between Kaliabor Tiniali and Tezpur.
At present, vehicles from Guwahati Tezpur have to pay toll fees at two spots – Sonapur in the Kamrup (M) district and Raha in the Nagaon district.
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) invited tenders recently for engagement of a user fee collection agency at Sulung Toll Fee Plaza in the Nagaon district for a period of three months or till the appointment of a new agency by NHAI, whichever is earlier. According to NHAI, each of the cars, jeeps, vans or light motor vehicles has to pay Rs 130 for a one-way trip and Rs 190 for the return trip the same day at Sulung. Each light commercial vehicle, light goods vehicle or minibus has to pay Rs 205 for a one-way trip and Rs 310 for the return trip the same day.
Each of the buses and trucks (up to two axles) has to pay Rs 475 for a one-way trip and Rs 650 for the return trip the same day.

In the recent past, NHAI did float tenders for the operation of two other toll plazas at Ratowa in Jinjia in the Biswanath district and Rangamati near Dergaon.
After the operation of the Sulung and Ratowa poll plazas, vehicles from Guwahati to Biswanath will have to pay toll fees at four spots – Sonapur, Raha, Sulung and Ratowa.
