GUWAHATI: The Autumn Session of the State Assembly held in the new Assembly building was adjourned sine die today. The session was crucial for the government. As many as 25 bills from various departments got their passage during the session, besides the supplementary budget for the financial year 2023–24.
The Assembly passed three other bills: the Assam Backward Classes Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2023; the Assam Gratuity (Amendment) Bill, 2023; and the Assam Repealing Bill, 2023. The passage of the Assam Repealing Bill, 2023, paved the way for the closure of the Assam Rajiv Gandhi University of Cooperative Management, Sivasagar. The proposed Sibsagar University will absorb all staff members of the Assam Rajiv Gandhi University of Cooperative Management. The Assembly passed a bill yesterday to upgrade Sibsagar College to a university.
