Assam: Bar on government land allotment near proposed Guwahati Ring Road

The state government has now barred any land allotment or settlement in 6,950 government Dags falling within 1 km from the centreline of the proposed Guwahati Ring Road.

Guwahati: The state government has now barred any land allotment or settlement in 6,950 government Dags falling within 1 km from the centreline of the proposed Guwahati Ring Road.

In this regard, the state government's Revenue and Disaster Management Department has issued a notification, which has been sent to the district commissioners of Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro) and Darrang districts.

The proposed Guwahati Ring Road, with a total length of 121 km, comprises 3 stretches: the greenfield Northern Bypass from Baihata Chariali to Sonapur via Kuruwa and Chandrapur; the Jayanagar underpass to Jorabat Junction; and Kamalpur near Baihata Chariali to Jalukbari and Jalukbari to Sonapur near Kapalkata. The Guwahati Ring Road project construction has been awarded to Dineshchandra R. Agarwal Infracon Pvt Ltd.

The notification barred any land allotment or settlement in 6,950 government Dags of 90 villages in 7 revenue circles of Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro) and Darrang districts. The revenue circles are Chandrapur with 1,226 Dags, Dispur 11, Kamalpur 3,365, Rangia 631, Sipajhar 1,143, Sonapur 533 and Uttar Guwahati with 41 Dags. These government Dags fall within 1 km from the centre line of the proposed Guwahati Ring Road.

In case any person occupying such land has applied for land settlement under Mission Basundhara, the application will now remain on hold until new orders are issued.

The order says, "allotment/ settlement of land falling within the ambit of the aforementioned Dags shall not be allowed by the jurisdictional District Commissioner or any other authority without prior approval from the Revenue & DM Department (Government of Assam)."
