Guwahati: A show-cause notice will be issued to the Deputy Commissioner, Barpeta, and the CEO of Barpeta Zilla Parishad will be transferred as per a report by Principal Secretary Mukesh Sahu on an incident involving an altercation between the DC and CEO.
The state government had instituted an inquiry into the recent incident of an altercation between the Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta, Rohan Kumar Jha, and the CEO of Barpeta Zilla Parishad, Arup Pathak. The inquiry was conducted by Mukesh Sahu, Principal Secretary to the Government of Assam. Sahu submitted a comprehensive report after recording statements from the officers concerned, examining follow-up orders issued by the Deputy Commissioner, and reviewing relevant documents, as well as CCTV footage of the incident.
The preliminary findings of the report suggest that this incident could have been avoided had there been adherence to decorum and officer-like conduct by the senior officers involved.
Taking cognizance of the findings, the government has decided on a course of action under which a show-cause notice will be issued to the Barpeta DC, seeking an explanation as to why disciplinary proceedings should not be initiated against them.
It was further decided that the CEO of the Zilla Parishad shall be transferred out of Barpeta.
After receiving the DC’s response, the Personnel Department will undertake further action as per the applicable Conduct Rules and Disciplinary Proceedings Rules, based on the merits of the case.
