Guwahati: Reacting to the Assam Budget 2025, ruling coalition partner Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) said the budget is people-oriented. The opposition Congress party, however, termed it an election-oriented budget.

After the budget was tabled, AGP president and Agriculture Minister Atul Bora said, "Under the guidance of the hon'ble Chief Minister, finance minister Ajanta Neog placed the budget very well. It was her fifth budget, and it was comprehensively good. Some are trying to label it an election-oriented budget, but it is aimed at people's welfare. The budget is a roadmap to place Assam among the top five states in the country. The budget will fulfil the CM's dream for Assam. As the agriculture minister, I have noticed that there is a thrust towards agriculture in the budget. The exceptional thing about the budget is that there is no new tax proposal, and the welfare of all sections of people has been taken into consideration."

Meanwhile, leader of the opposition in the Assembly, Congress MLA Debabrata Saikia, said, "My preliminary view is that the budget is an election-oriented one because elections will be held in 2026. Some of the schemes mentioned in the budget will be implemented by October 2025. This proves that the target of the budget is the election. It is aimed at garnering votes." He pointed out that the daily wage of tea labourers was supposed to have been hiked to Rs 351. "But the reality is otherwise," he added. It was also pointed out the budget has mostly kept mum on the implementation of the Assam Accord.

Moreover, Water Resources and Information & Public Relations Minister Pijush Hazarika said, “People's aspirations are reflected in today's budget. Infrastructure development is another major role to be played by the budget. I thank the Hon'ble Chief Minister and the Finance Minister for preparing a budget aimed at people's welfare.”
