GUWAHATI: The State Cabinet has approved two MoUs for hotel and hospitality projects worth Rs 457 crore, besides the approval for the setting up of a milk processing unit of Amul. It has also fixed the rates of subsidized sugar, salt and masoor dal.
Speaking to the media today, Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu said that the Cabinet has approved leasing out 20 bighas of land to Amul for the setting up of a state-of-the-art product dairy plant at Rani. Amul will set up this processing plant with a capacity of 1 lakh litres of milk per day at an approximate cost of Rs 75 crore that may go up to Rs 150 crore. This plant will benefit around 20,000 dairy farmers of the state, he said.
The Cabinet approved the distribution of subsidized masur dal, sugar and salt from November 2025. The final cost of these three commodities to the consumers will be Rs 69 per kg for masur dal, Rs 38 per kg for sugar, and Rs 10 per kg for salt.
The Cabinet has approved two investment proposals in the hotel and hospitality sector. One of the approved MoUs is for Rs 335 crore with Jonali Construction Private Ltd that is set to generate 4,000 direct employment and as many indirect employment in the state. The other approved MoU is for Rs 122 crore with Down Town Hospital Ltd.
The Cabinet has approved the enhancement of the monthly honorarium of 1,313 part-time ICT instructors under Dr. Banikanta Kakati Computer Literacy Programme to Rs 20,000 per month from the existing Rs 14,000 per month. These instructors will also be eligible for availing of the benefits of the Apon Ghar Apon Bahon Asoni and Mukhya Mantrir Lok Sevak Aarogya Yojana.
P&RD Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass, who was also present at the media briefing, said that the formation and selection of presidents and vice presidents of Gaon Panchayats will be completed from June 21 to July 10, the formation of Anchalik Panchayat from July 11 to July 20, and that of Zilla Parishads will be completed from July 21 to July 30. The ZPs, APs and GPs will start functioning from August 1.
Dass also said that no GP member can move a no-confidence motion against a GP president within two years and a half of his or her taking over charge.
