GUWAHATI: The state Cabinet today sanctioned Rs 2,249 crore scheme implementation, including new power connections to rural populace, purchase of new transformers, renovation of old police stations etc.

The Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took the following decisions.

 The Cabinet sanctioned Rs 120 crore to renovate old police stations, besides shifting police stations housed in rented accommodations.

 4.80 lakh rural households in the state are out of the grid under the Soubhagya scheme. The Cabinet decided to provide power connections to these people. It sanctioned Rs 1,718 crore for this purpose.

 The Cabinet decided to purchase 9,000 new transformers and renovate 4,200 existing transformers. It also decided to set up 70 new power sub-stations. It sanctioned Rs 250 crore for this purpose.

 The Cabinet sanctioned Rs 161 crore for power connections to 13,120 LP schools and 48,231 Anganwadi centres.

 The Cabinet approved a smart-meter project for installing 6.20 lakh smart meters in urban areas to improve the billing process and energy accounting, thereby reducing commercial losses.

 The Cabinet decided to include 89 revenue villages in Sissi Tangani Tribal Block in the Dhemaji district. Around 99 per cent of residents of the villages belong to the protected class.

 The Cabinet decided to implement the Second National Labour Commission's recommendations on wages submitted to the Centre. The Commission is especially for tea garden workers. The State Labour Department will explore the possibilities of exempting wages of tea garden workers from the purview of the National Level Floor Wage as envisaged in the code of wages, 2019.

 It decided to form the Orang Tiger Conservation Foundation Trust to help tiger conservation in the state. The Principal Chief Conservator of Forest will take the lead.

 Earlier, the Cabinet had decided to abolish fair price shops with 50 beneficiaries. Today, the Cabinet said that this decision would not apply in fair-price shops owned by widows and physically handicapped ones.

 The Cabinet decided to provide 1.50 Katha of land at Sarusajai to the Sadou Asom Maina Parijat Organization for its permanent office.
