Global summit on investment

Guwahati: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar in New Delhi on Monday in connection with the upcoming Assam Infrastructure and Investment Summit 2025. He also met with Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil regarding the implementation of the 'Har Ghar Jal' scheme in the state.
During their meeting, the CM extended an invitation to PM Modi to attend the Summit and witness the 'mega' Jhumur dance performance scheduled to take place during the event. PM Modi accepted the CM's invitation and confirmed that he would be attending the Summit as the chief guest. The CM also sought the support of the PM to make the global event a successful one.
Sources said that in the around 25-minute meeting with the PM, the CM apprised him about the slew of development initiatives in the state and also sought guidance from PM Modi on various developmental issues.
After his meeting with the PM, the CM met with EAM Jaishankar and sought the latter's support and cooperation in making the upcoming Summit a success. He also extended an invitation to the Minister to attend the investment summit.
In light of the fact that delegates from many foreign countries would be participating in the Summit, the presence and support of the EAM would be necessary. An amount of Rs 25 crore had earlier been earmarked for the investment summit in the state budget 2024-25. The summit will be held in Guwahati for two days from February 24, 2025.
On the other hand, the CM also met with Jal Shakti Minister Patil and sought support for saturation of the 'Har Ghar Jal' scheme. During the meeting, the CM apprised Patil about the significant strides made by the state in implementing the 'Har Ghar Jal' scheme, with more than 80% tap water connections completed. The CM asked the Union minister to assist the state in taking the 'Har Ghar Jal' initiative further and to ensure its saturation. The Union Minister assured the CM that his ministry would fully assist Assam in achieving the saturation point under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
