NAGAON: A team from the Chief Minister's Vigilance conducted a raid at the residence of a forest officer in Nagaon Madhupur on Saturday. As per reports, the raid was based on a complaint filed by a timber trader from Hojai district against Shamim Akhtar, the then forest officer of Hojai. During the raid, CM vigilance team found only Rs 5,000 in cash at the forest officer's residence. They also measured the officer's residential building and found that it was built before she joined government service, using wealth inherited from her parents after marriage.
Besides, the team examined the documents of bank accounts of the forest officer and her engineer husband. They also found that the officer's husband owns one katha of land at Aminpatty in Nagaon town. Vigilance team discovered two life insurance policies in the names of the forest officer and her husband. They also obtained information about loans taken from banks.
As per information, the complaint against Shamim Akhtar was filed about three years ago. The CM Vigilance team had previously investigated the matter and conducted raids earlier. Significantly, the team found similar information during the latest raid as they did during the initial investigation.
The team's findings suggest that the forest officer's assets were acquired before she joined government service, and the investigation is likely aimed at verifying the sources of her income and assets, sources added further.
