GUWAHATI: The State DGP has warned the police personnel of stern action against them if they do not desist from indulging in illegal and immoral activities.
DGP GP Singh appealed to all the police personnel of the state to keep the dignity of their uniform intact by not indulging in any activity that may taint it. He appealed to the Gazette police officers to set personnel examples for the force to follow. He directed all DSPs and Additional Commissioners of Police to visit every police station, outpost, and checkpoint at night.
The DGP said that he would take stern action in the event of sexual offences in police stations or outposts, taking bribes, coming to office in an inebriated condition, collecting money on the highways, and involvement in crime and criminal activities. In the event of the dismissal of police personnel for such crimes, the SPs should discuss cases with the DGP, IGP (A), and IGP (T&AP).
Such an outburst came from the DGP following a few incidents involving some police personnel in the state that have brought a bad name to the force in the recent past. The police force in the state had to face a diatribe from various quarters.
It is pertinent to mention that around seven police personnel had to face dismissal from service for their indulgence in illegal and immoral activities.
